Spotlight on Murtaza Haidermota
At Spotlight, we got the opportunity to talk to Murtaza Haidermota, director of BTH Properties Limited. We chatted about achieving long term goals, overcoming setbacks and his best advice for anyone starting out.
I am the director of BTH Properties Ltd, based in Central London in Holland Park. I have been in the real estate business since 2008 and I started my own business in 2011. We deal with properties located in London & the UK. My wife was my inspiration to start the business as when we got together, she was studying to be an architect and I was studying Business Studies. My long-term goal was always to run a family business to leave a legacy for my future generations & Property just sounded right on all the fronts.
The hardest thing is breaking into the property development world. I do my small refurbs and property flips on the side, but yet have to get onto a full-scale property development project. I just keep gaining more experience in the property brokering and developing world. The biggest drive for me is to have my family business where my wife and kids when they grow up all work together and have a full arm of capturing the London & UK Property market. The biggest lessons I’ve learnt along the way is to never cheat your clients.
My Kids are my initiative. I look at them every morning and I can see my goal in them as to where I want to be and how I want to achieve my goal.
To anyone looking to start a business I would say Just Do it, don’t think too much. If you have an idea, work your best to make it possible. 90% of the time I have been told Stay Positive & Never Quit.
My top three tips are:
1. Be determined!
2. Cash Flow is key, but trust in God is the main key.
3. Never Lose Focus from your Ultimate goal.
People say always lead from the Front, But if you lead from the front then your team is behind you, so my advice would be if you want to be a leader, lead from within your team. Make your team a leadership team. Grow with your team. If your team grows, you will eventually grow.
Listen to your team, they have the best ideas. You are one, there are many. Analyse the best ideas, and put them to work.
Highs and lows
The best part of my job is getting Instructed on properties every day, and going to see them and videoing them. Of course, the worst is when a deal falls through it can be very disheartening. There is no formula for success. You have to make your own and learn your own methods.
My main strategy during COVID is to be more active on social media mainly Instagram. It's the best way to grow your business. I have just been focusing on driving my business upwards through social media.
