Spotlight on Danny Brierley

We put the Spotlight on Danny Brierley, Entertainment Entrepreneur; Artist Manager, Concert Promoter, Tour Manager, Marketer & Mentor at Subconscious Sounds.

A background into you and your business?

I started 'Subconscious Sounds' ( @subconsounds ) in the summer of 2014 as an artist and event management company having no previous experience in managing talent, coordinating events or even running any sort of business. Fast forward nearly 6 years having showcased hundreds of live acts; Artists, Musicians, Bands and DJ's etc in more than 10 UK cities including my hometown of Birmingham.

In 2019 I signed my first Artist 'Ruby J' Who has all the potential to reach the very top and that potential coincides with the thoughts of reputable key music executives from some of the biggest companies in the world. I can't say anymore, unfortunately, but go check Ruby J out @rubyjofficial.

What made you choose your career in the music industry?

My love for music, especially live music.

What has been your biggest challenge or setback during your career?

I can't really recall one significant challenge or set back. Most wins and losses are all micro.

Focus on the macro (the bigger picture)

If any, can you tell us more about how you overcame those setbacks?

I don't really dwell on setbacks. Overcoming setbacks is a mentality that you have to develop in order to be happy. Personally I try not to judge myself or others on individual errors, mistakes or misfortunes. How a person responds is what's important.

What is the biggest lesson that you’ve learnt along the way?

Patience. Nothing happens in the idealistic short time frame you'd like it to, that doesn't mean that it won't or can't happen.

What tip would you give to those starting their careers?

Do what you love or really like doing. Most people struggle to like what they're good at instead of focusing on becoming good at what they actually like.

What is your advice to people who are wanting to start a business?

Just do it. You'll never know everything and you'll always be learning along the way.

adaptability is the key.

What is the best bit of advice that you have ever been given?

Success comes through many failures

Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?

The formula is simple. You only fail when you quit. Happiness is success. When you love what you do it isn't necessarily work. Yes, there are tasks, problems etc but you have to enjoy the process and thrive on the chaos and uncertainty. The current situation with the virus is an example of uncertainty. Where there is chaos there is also opportunity.

What has been your strategy for your business during corona?

Focus on what you can do not what you can't do. Patience, innovation and self-awareness are needed. Don't beat yourself up or become too frustrated.
